It was only 105k's to Katherine from Mataranka so the first thing we did when we got there was to stop in town and shop. From there we drove to the Big 4 Low Level Caravan Park (which is a bit out of town) and booked in for 7 nights. The following day we went to the Post Office as I had left the charger for the Nikon camera at home and Tori had sent it on. She had also put in a Mothers Day present for me - a Camera Pandora Bead. Very appropriate. When we got back we spent a few hours at the pool. It was so cool and refreshing as the weather is very hot - about 35 deg C. But the nights are lovely and cool. Below are a few photos of us in the pool.
We also sat in the spa for a while. I took this first shot and when I looked at it I noticed that Maureen had attracted some lovely sparkles so we are calling her the Fairy Grandmother.
On Saturday we drove to Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk as it is now called) as Pat and Maureen wanted to book to go on a boat tour through the gorge. They could only go through the first part as there is a bit of walking to do over rocky areas between gorges to change boats and it would have been too difficult for Maureen. When we got inside the building I noticed these snakes in a glass cage. I felt really sorry for them as they should be out in their natural environment and it looked like they wanted to get there but it was only a picture :(
I took a photo of Maureen standing in front of a large poster of the gorge.
Below are a couple of shots of Arnold, Pat and Maureen. P & M had made their booking so they were very happy.
On the way back we stopped by the river to take some practice shots with our new cameras. Pat had also purchased a new one (Nikon) for the trip and is still learning to master a DSLR so Arnold was helping him.
The bridge across the river is what we have to cross to get to the caravan park so we have crossed it quite a few times since we've been here.
There are always people swimming in the river. It was no different on this occasion. Aboriginals are always coming down to fish or swim as are others. We spoke to a young guy and asked him if there were any crocodiles in this part of the river. He assured us there wasn't. That's not to say there hasn't been in the past lol
When we got back to the park I put my swimmers on and went to the pool to read and sunbathe. I really need to tan my singlet marks.
On Sunday, Mothers Day, we spent a lazy day and then at 5.00pm we went down to the restaurant which is right next to the swimming pool and had happy hour. I had a Mango Daiquiri - it was so delicious. We had also booked in for dinner. I had Chicken Curry, Arnold had Scotch Fillet and Pat and Maureen had Battered Barramundi. We all agreed it was a delicious meal.
As the light faded the coloured lights came on. There was also a Country & Western singer who entertained us.
We didn't stay very long after we finished our meal. There were still people coming in but it was time for us to go back to the van, have a cup of tea, watch a bit of telly and then sleep.
Monday morning Pat & Maureen left to drive to the gorge and go on their boat trip. Their booking was for 11.00am. Arnold and I went into town. Firstly I went to the Post Office as Cindy had sent me a Mothers Day present - a beautiful bottle of Guess Perfume. We walked up and down the main street just looking at the shops. We got back to the park just as P&M did. They both said how much they enjoyed their boat trip.
So now its Tuesday 13th May. We had a leisurely morning and then after lunch we decided to drive to the Hot Springs which only took a few minutes. However, when we got there there was no way for Maureen to get down to the springs as there are quite a few metal steps to go down. We came back to the park and went to the pool instead.
After we had cooled off we went back to the van to prepare dinner. We had Beef Stroganoff and Mashed Potato. Our microwave couldn't handle the length of cooking time so I finished it off at the camp kitchen. Gave me a chance to read a few magazines while I waited.
So here I am. It's 11.30pm. Arnold is watching a good show on TV and in a few minutes I will be in bed watching it too. Tomorrow is our last day here so we will spend some time, fuelling up - diesel and food lol. I suppose we will have a last swim and then it will be time to start packing up and putting things away.
I know some of you are having trouble leaving a comment. I will look into it to see why it won't let you.
Goodnight all x
