PORTARLINGTON TO THE FLINDERS RANGES (WILPENA POUND CAMPGROUND)

We left home on Saturday 9 April and visited family.  On the Sunday we drove to Ballarat for Ben and Jackie's daughter Milla's Baptism.  She looked beautiful and was so good.

On the Monday morning we headed off.  Our first night was spent at a freecamp at Bordertown.  It was a bit noisy with the trucks going past at all hours but otherwise okay.

The following morning we drove to Waikerie and crossed the Murray on a ferry.  It only took a little while to get to the otherside.

We drove on through lovely green countryside to a place called Mount Bryan where we stayed at another freecamp next to the old railway station.  In its heyday it was quite busy and you could imagine people getting off the train and walking across the street to the Hotel or the General Store before heading off home.  Now it is derelict.

We left Mt Bryan the following morning and drove to Peterborough where we did a bit of sightseeing.  Firstly the Information Train.  A beautiful old thing with leather seats and pressed metal ceilings.

Then we wandered down the street and took a few photos of old buildings etc.

From there we drove on to Hawker passing this house ruin on the way.  What stories it could tell of times gone by.

And then on to Wilpena Pound.  We stayed at the campground called Dingly Dell.  There were a few vans there already and we met some great people.  While staying at Wilpena we drove to a lookout called Stokes Hill.  From there you could see the Pound Walls.  Great views.

The following day we drove into Wilpena and caught a bus which took us a few kilometres into the Pound and then we walked/climbed.  It was quite steep and I was so glad when we got to the top.  We were a little disappointed as the view was not as awesome as we thought it would be but it was still worth it.

I will leave it here and post again as soon as I am able.  Bye for now.

OK I'm green with envy here - we so want to get back out there!! The Flinders Rangers are a fav. of ours, but I think you need to invest in some ear plugs for those overnight stays near truck routes LOL.

Enjoy your travels and have a safe Easter on the roads.
